Principal's Update

Good Afternoon!

The following information is specifically for our senior students and families:

We are in the last few months of your high school experience, congratulations! This is a busy semester of milestones, exams, celebrations, farewells and GRADUATION! You have worked hard for the last twelve years for these moments, so we want you to enjoy all of it responsibly and without unexpected surprises.

We had the pleasure of speaking with seniors earlier today to remind them that even though the “finish line” is near, there is still work to be done. Every senior should make sure they understand their class credit standing and have a plan in place to meet all of our graduation requirements so we can all cross the stage in June.

Seniors must successfully complete all of the graduation required classes they are currently enrolled in by the end of the semester. If not, credit recovery options will only be available this summer or next year which will delay a student’s graduation.

This final semester has many due dates and important information that I need our seniors to be on top of. We will also have multiple opportunities to ask questions and share these expectations. Our first senior meeting was today and the next one is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26th during advisory in the auditorium

Seniors and families can find updated information on this page of our website (link).

Let’s have a great final semester!

MODIFIED SCHEDULE for ELPAC TESTING 2/12 & 2/14

The ELPAC test is required for all EL students who have yet to be reclassified (reclassified means students have demonstrated proficiency in academic English in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking).

The ELPAC test is the most important piece of the reclassification process so it is important that our students take this exam seriously.

The ELPAC will be administered during the advisory period on Wednesday, February 12 and Friday, February 14. Students who are taking the ELPAC exam need to bring their fully charged Chromebook to school on testing days.

Please contact Assistant Principal Shannon Erby if you have any questions.

Be A Champion for Empowering Young Marin Teens

Become a sponsor today

Greetings Friend of Marin Teens!

Don’t miss this opportunity to become a sponsor and supporter of the 13th Annual Marin Teen Girls Conference on March 2, 2024, at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael--a truly inspirational day for young women in Marin.

Hosted by the Marin Women’s Commission, this free event attracts over 250 teens from across the county, along with enthusiastic support from parents and the community.

The Conference is organized in tandem with Marin teen leaders as part of our Teen Ambassador Program. This means it is the only event of its kind organized by teens for teens. Last year, we welcomed hundreds of attendees who learned about everything from opening checking accounts to mental health to body positivity to career pathways. We invite you to check out our 2024 press release to see highlights from last year’s impactful program.

Sponsoring this highly anticipated event is a unique opportunity to align your brand with a cause that truly matters. We encourage you to learn more about sponsorship levels and benefits here. Donations of any size are tax-deductible and will directly support the success of this transformative event.

We so hope you will join us to support and empower our young women.

Warm regards,

Maureen Broderick

January 24, 2025

Dear Parents/Guardians,

San Rafael High School has a proud tradition of offering our students a wide range of courses from which they can select for their course schedule for the following year, and this year is no different. We want our students to challenge themselves to take the most rigorous courses they believe they can manage.

This month, students will receive information about our electives, CTE pathways, AP. and Honors courses. From February 3 through February 14, counselors will visit English classes to help students make their initial course requests in Aeries via their Academic Plans. Later in February, we will send home a course verification letter, which allows families and students one last chance to make changes to course requests. At this time, students and their families will be asked to commit to these course requests. These requests will be granted to the best of our ability in managing our overall master schedule. Class or course conflicts may result in the inability of your student to be enrolled in all requested courses. If there is a course conflict, counselors will contact their students to discuss their options.

Students who are interested in taking AP courses will need to complete an AP Contract that acknowledges that they are expected to stay in this class the entire school year. The due date for the completed AP contracts to be returned to the counseling office is March 19th; any students who do not complete this contract will have any AP course taken off their course requests.

Students and parents should keep in mind the hours of preparation and follow through that are required for success in an advanced level course. We recommend students limit their advanced coursework to no more than three Honors or AP classes in a year. To be eligible for placement in an AP class, the student should meet specific criteria as is stated in the curriculum guide, which can be found on our school website. Some AP classes may have a summer assignment that will need to be completed prior to the beginning of the next school year.

Please be sure to take some time to discuss your student’s course requests with them, taking into consideration their responsibilities outside of school. If you have any questions or need further information about the course request process, please contact our Counseling Office at 415-485-2336.

Sincerely,

Kent Morales
