Dear Seniors and families:
Congratulations to all of you for making it to this final stretch of your time with us at SR! Please be sure to read this bulletin in its entirety because there are a lot of upcoming deadlines and activities all meant to make sure we end your high school career with all of the celebration and fanfare you deserve. I’d hate for you to miss out or to lose privileges for not staying up to date with all of this information! Let’s start with a few reminders:
Senior Celebrations & Behaviors:
Participation in the many special events for Seniors such as the prom, cap & gown pick up and the graduation ceremony are privileges extended to students in “good standing.” A student’s “good standing” is based on their behavior, attendance, and academics for the entire school year. As we move into the 4th quarter, a students must meet the following criteria in order to participate in these events:
Elimination of Class Rank and No Valedictorian or Salutatorian:
You may recall an earlier message from me in August announcing that similar to our neighboring districts in Tamalpais and Novato, starting this year San Rafael City Schools no longer includes class rank on students' high school transcripts. This change followed a growing trend among high schools nationwide. This means we will not recognize a Valedictorian and Salutatorian.
Instead, we plan to recognize our seniors earning highest honors at both Senior Awards Night and our Graduation Ceremony. Based on the total weighted 9-12 GPA:
The Seniors with these designations will receive a medal at the Senior awards ceremony and will be asked to wear it at graduation and will be acknowledged in our Graduation Program.
Parents and Families:
I ask you to take some time and discuss these expectations with your senior. Feel free to call the assistant principals or me should you have any questions. We look forward to a positive, productive, and enjoyable spring with our senior class.

Principal | San Rafael High School
