Good Afternoon Bulldogs & Families!
Students: We are one month into the school year and I hope you have established your routines and goals for the year. Teachers will be reporting your grade progress by Tuesday, so I’m hoping to see that you have been keeping up or seeking help where you need it.
Families: If you keep up with your teen’s grades on the parent portal regularly, thank you. We always appreciate the support of our families when they encourage their teens to take ownership of their success.
Everyone: The number one indicator of student success is attending every class, every day. September is Attendance Awareness Month. Not only is student attendance crucial to their individual success, we are a better school when everyone shows up!
Next, Homecoming is only 10 days away (September 28 - October 3rd)!
For those of you who are new to high school traditions, Homecoming is a weeklong series of activities planned by students for the community to build school spirit and invite “home” our SRHS alumni and former staff!
STUDENTS: Believe me when I say that your high school life will zoom past you and the best way to make long lasting connections is to GET INVOLVED with the events happening on campus! Some of my most favorite memories while in high school were during homecoming week. Building my sophomore class parade float, leading the marching band during football games, planning and participating in spirit rallies and going to the dance with my friends all contributed to the person I am today. I learned leadership, communication, organization and people skills that all prepared me for college and the jobs I have since held. Every one of these opportunities were fun, kept me out of trouble AND made me a more successful student in the classroom. I recommend the same for you!
The theme for this year’s Homecoming is “DAWGChella” in the spirit of the yearly music festival. The ASB student leadership group have planned the following activities for that week:
Monday, September 28th:
Students: The theme is "Night Under The Stars!” Wear all black on Monday and keep in mind that facepaint is not appropriate for this activity.
Entire Community: We will induct former SRHS teacher, Bill Costello and alumnus Harry Miller to the SRHS Hall of Honor (6:00 pm in the SRHS Hayes Theater). We will also recognize Pam & Tom “Pat” Collins with the Golden Bulldog Award for their immense support of SRHS. The entire community is invited to attend.
Tuesday, September 29th:
Students: The theme is “Adam Sandler Day!” Baggy basketball shorts, a T-shirt and sandals will do.
I can’t say I understand why Adam Sandler gets his own day, but hey have fun with it.
Wednesday, September 30th:
Students: The theme is “Flashing Lights!” Dress up in neon bright colors.
Thursday, October 1st:
Students: The theme is “Battle of the Classes!” Each class is assigned a different theme to see which group has the most spirit:
Freshmen: Babies!
Sophomores: Nerds!
Juniors: Superheros!
Seniors: Togas!
Staff: 80s!
Friday, October 2nd:
Students: The theme is Country Day! Deck out in your flannels, boots and cowboy hats to school and at the football game! The entire school will participate in a spirit rally during advisory to get excited for that evening’s festivities.
Entire Community: Join us for the Homecoming Parade and the Homecoming Football game on Friday Evening!
The parade begins at 4:00 pm and we will travel down 4th street downtown. We will showcase our clubs, sports and community!
The Homecoming football games begin at 4:30 pm for the JV team and 7:00 pm for Varsity. Both teams are competing against Hercules High School and we will crown the Homecoming Royalty during halftime!
Saturday, October 3rd:
Students: The homecoming dance is from 6:30 - 9:00 pm in the SRHS Gym. Tickets are not sold at the door so make sure you purchase yours by Friday 10/2, at the student store during brunch or lunch! $25 per student.
