What is the PSAT?
The Preliminary SAT (PSAT) is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT. It also allows students to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) programs (grade 11 only) and access college and career planning tools. The PSAT measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills, and writing skills. This test doesn't require students to recall specific facts from their classes. Students will receive feedback on their strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study. Students will learn how their performance on an admissions test might compare with that of others applying to college and will become familiar with the kinds of questions and the exact directions they will see on the SAT.

Important Info:
If your students are taking the SAT® or PSAT/NMSQT® in school next month, remind them to provide their mobile number—it’s the primary way they’ll be able to access their scores through the BigFuture® School mobile app. For students already using the app, let them know they can now personalize their college search by updating new preferences in their settings. Within the app, students can also opt in to Connections™ to hear from nonprofit colleges and scholarship providers interested in students like them—all without having to share any personal information.
