| Important Update Regarding a SRHS Teacher |
|
Dear San Rafael High School Community,
This is a difficult letter to write, but one I believe is important. The health, safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority, and we are committed to keeping you informed when situations arise that impact our community. In an effort to provide accurate information, I want to inform you of a serious situation regarding one of our teachers.
On April 14, San Rafael High School administration notified the San Rafael Police Department after receiving information about allegations of misconduct involving a SRHS teacher. While we are limited in what we can share due to privacy laws and the ongoing nature of the case, we can assure you that the school and District acted swiftly to involve law enforcement and to conduct a thorough investigation. The employee was placed on administrative leave throughout the investigation.
As a result of the police investigation, the individual was arrested today, May 20, in connection with an alleged illegal and inappropriate relationship with a minor under the age of 18. The District will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities as this process moves forward.
These allegations are deeply disturbing. We hold all employees to the highest standards of conduct in the best interest of students. SRCS takes each and every reported act of misconduct very seriously and is committed to thoroughly investigating concerns and taking appropriate action when warranted.
As always, we encourage parents to contact school administrators if you have concerns about your child. We recognize that news of this nature can be concerning. Counselors are available to support any students or staff who may need assistance. We will be sharing this message with SRHS students later this afternoon.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
Sincerely,
Carmen Ghysels Superintendent |

As a follow up, we are sharing a related communication (linked below) from the San Rafael Police Department that was recently released. In their statement, they identify the teacher as Kevin Eric Allen, who teaches drama at SRHS:
