Dear SRHS Community,
It is with a heavy heart that I share that Aaron Baten Gramajo, a San Rafael High School rising senior, tragically passed away Monday evening. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this extremely difficult time. Aaron grew up here in San Rafael, and his loss deeply affects so many, especially those in the Laurel Dell, Davidson and SRHS community who he and his family are closely connected with.
As we are at the end of summer break, it is heartbreaking to share this news over email instead of gathering together to process it as a school community. We anticipate many students and staff will experience feelings of shock and tremendous grief. We believe that it is important that all are encouraged to discuss these feelings and emotions with a parent or trusted adult, and also to seek additional support if helpful. Please observe your child over the next several days and weeks to watch for signs that may indicate a need for additional support and do not hesitate to reach out.
Our Wellness Center and counseling team are available to help our community in grappling with this news beginning today, Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 8 am to 4 pm. Additionally, here are some resources from the National Association of School Psychologists with tips and information for coping with loss and here is a guide for understanding teen grief and how to provide support. Also, Care Solace is available for the SRHS community; it is a simple, fast and safe tool that connects you with a local referral for your specific mental health needs.
At this time, we ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy and that you refrain from contacting them formally or through social media.
I know we are all deeply saddened and that you join me in conveying our heartfelt condolences to Aaron’s family and friends. In moments like these the importance of coming together is paramount and I am looking forward to having our students and staff back on campus very soon.
Sincerely,
Joe Ryan Dominguez (he/him)
