Principal's Update

Happy Friday Students and Families,

Prom and graduation are around the corner and we want to ensure our youth have a fun time while staying safe. Raising the Bar, Keep Youth Events Substance Free (RTB) aims to shift the norms of substance use and encourage adult modeling of healthy choices. We ask for your support to keep pre-prom and graduation events alcohol and substance-free.

Raising the Bar is a county-wide initiative created in 2017 when the California County Health Rankings showed that Marin County ranked higher than 80% of all counties in the state for excessive adult alcohol consumption. The youth data is also alarmingly high, with Marin County 11th graders current BINGE DRINKING rate doubling the state average (2X)*.

We have a significant impact on our teens’ decisions regarding alcohol. Hence, it’s important for them to see that adults can have a good time without drinking alcohol and using substances at youth-centered events. By working together, we can have a direct impact on the health of our youth, and decrease the short and long-term consequences of underage substance use on adolescents, families, and our community as a whole.

Raising the Bar partners with the Marin Prevention Network, Marin Health and Human Services, schools, local coalitions, and youth organizations throughout Marin County to promote healthy adult modeling. For more information on this important county-wide initiative, please check out the website at Raising the Bar

Back Lot Procedures and Updates
The back lot near the Baseball field and Tennis Courts is closed to all cars from 9:00 pm to 6:30 am when school is in session and on weekends/holidays. The gate is also locked during the school day to prevent unapproved vehicles, secure our campus, and ensure the safety of our students and staff.
To ensure the lot remains closed in the evening, weekends and holidays, the gate will be locked after hours with a padlock that staff will not have access to. If there is a game or event on the weekend, spectators, coaches, and players will have to park in the front lot. Vehicles parked in the lot past when we close up will be locked up until re-opening. We will begin implementing this new practice on Friday, March 22.  We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

• If you have not called, your student may also bring to the Attendance Office a guardian signed and dated note explaining their absence.

• Please try to schedule doctor or legal appointments outside of school hours.

• Please call with anticipation or send a note with your student the day of any appointment you must schedule during the school day. This gives us time to notify teachers and not disrupt class.
