This Week @ SR - August 28, 2026

Good Afternoon Bulldogs & Families!

It was only the first full week of school and we are already having a great time! The Girls Volleyball teams are starting their seasons strong, we had a great turnout to the first PTO meeting of the year, spirit week was full of excitement and the ASB planned an amazing Welcome Back/Bell Game Rally to keep us all hyped for this evening! 

I know I keep repeating myself on this point but there is an energy to this year that has me pumped up for 2026-2027! Thanks to everyone for making it happen.

Now for a few housekeeping items:

First: All of our school wide policies regarding hallpasses, phones, tardies, lunch detention and un-approved parking will go into full effect on Monday, 8/31. Students had over a week of grace and we met with each grade level over the last eight school days to make sure they understood the expectations. Thanks for your support in keeping class time productive and the campus safe and orderly.

Second: Students watched this linked video to explain our advisory/tutorial process. Advisory and tutorials happen every Wednesday and Friday. This is designed as a flexible period for students to get ahead or caught up in class. Students have the ability to sign up to see teachers if they need help. We also arrange college representative visits, group study rooms, quiet study sessions, community service opportunities, Wellness Center groups, club meetings and more. Students have the responsibility to sign up by 8:30 am on the day of the session. Parents, we can use your help with making sure they sign up for the tutorials they actually need.

Third: I am getting frequent emails from our neighbors sharing that some students who park in the neighborhood are often blocking their driveways and/or loitering on their properties. I let them know that I will be sending out reminders and warnings like this one. I don’t have enough staff to patrol the neighborhoods so, students, I need you to make sure you are parking correctly and staying off the neighbors' property. I would hate to see your cars getting towed if they choose to call the police.

Last: As you have seen, we have lots going on every day at SR! From the school day, extra-curricular opportunities, field trips, athletics and everything else happening for our high school students, I imagine it is hard for our parents and families to know what is school sanctioned and what is not.

My expectation for all SR staff is to increase our transparency for families so you know what is school approved. I want you to feel safe in knowing that your teens are going somewhere that is supervised and sanctioned.

If an event, meeting or school sanctioned activity is taking place outside of the regular school day (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), you will find it on one of these two calendars:

The SRHS Events Calendar or The SRHS Athletics Calendar. Add one or both of these calendars to your devices or you can find them on our school website as well.

As a general rule, if your students are going to an activity that is not on these calendars, it is likely not school approved and we have no knowledge of it taking place. Never hesitate to reach out to me or the teacher if you have any questions about this.

E-Bikes Safety As we start the new school year, I want to encourage all of us to help students make safe, smart choices about how they get to and from campus. Walking, biking, carpooling, and public transit are great ways for high school students to stay active, reduce traffic, and contribute to green travel with less pollution. If your student bikes, please ensure they wear a helmet (and passenger riders), follow the rules of the road, and ride predictably. If they ride an e-bike or e-scooter, it’s important to know that Marin County law requires riders to be at least 16 years old to operate Class 2 throttle e-bikes or e-scooters. E-motos (non-compliant Class 2 e-bikes) remain illegal on our public roads and pathways for all users. For their safety—and to stay compliant with local law—please do not allow your student to ride them. Class 1 pedal-assist e-bikes remain legal for students of all ages. Visit E-bikers Club and Parent Resources to learn more. These rules exist because we’ve seen an increase in serious crashes among younger, less experienced riders. Please talk with your student about safe riding practices—not only for their own protection, but also to keep others safe on the road. If your student drives to school, remind them to follow all traffic laws, avoid distractions, and be extra alert near schools—especially in the mornings and afternoons when younger students are walking and biking. Slowing down and staying attentive can prevent serious accidents and protect our most vulnerable road users. Thank you for helping us set a strong example and ensuring that every student arrives at school ready to learn and returns home safely each day. Important Campus Updates from the Dean of Students - New Tardy Policy New Tardy Policy To maximize instructional time and minimize classroom disruptions, San Rafael High School is implementing a campus-wide tardy initiative. We are currently prioritizing punctuality immediately following lunch to help students establish a consistent routine for their afternoon classes. How the Process works: Prompt Entrance: As soon as the tardy bell rings following lunch, classroom doors will close. Detention: Students entering after the bell will be handed a standardized detention reminder notice and marked tardy in our system. Parking Enforcement at Montecito In addition to our internal policies, we want to remind families regarding parking in the neighborhood. Any vehicles observed parking at the Montecito shopping center will be subject to towing. Management has added additional signage to ensure parking remains available for customers and tenants Back to School New Date - Sept 10th Library Update Book Checkouts:  We have hundreds of new books, and students may borrow several books at a time!  Here is the link to our library catalog, which displays new books by category.  eBooks are also available on Sora, and include these collections:  Mental Health and Wellness Careers Sora on MARINet Public Library Consortium. (Thousands of titles. Students’ SRCS browser logs in automatically.) Databases: Go to Canvas and click Library Resources to access research databases and find credible sources.       Marin IJ -  Use the following username to log in:  SRCS + Aeries Student ID Peer Tutoring:  Arrange a tutoring session with a peer during Advisory/Tutorial sessions beginning Sept. 2. Email Mr. Berner at rberner@srcs.org.  Online Tutoring:  Through our partnership with the San Rafael Public Library, students receive free online tutoring in math and writing from live, vetted HomeworkCA tutors. Student Drop Off Please allow enough time to drop off your student each morning in the  Main Lot off of Third Street.  You will NOT be able to drop off your student on Mission Ave due to ongoing construction! Please use the lane in the photo above to drop-off/pick-up your students to not cause a traffic jam in the parking lot. PE Uniforms PE Uniforms can be purchased online at the DAWG Shop or at the student store during brunch and lunch when school is in session.
