Principal's Weekly Update

Dear students and families,

As we get closer to the end of the year, I want to remind everyone to stay focused and committed to success!

In my message today I want to give a shout out to Mock Trial, Urge you to join Link Crew and a few reminders:

Mock Trial Team Success:
The Mock Trial team had a fantastic season with several positive outcomes worth celebrating. Six students earned outstanding performance awards, and one student received all perfect scores on the first day of the tournament. The team likely had the most outstanding performance winners overall! Looking ahead, six out of the eight lawyers are returning next year, which bodes well for future seasons.

Our award winners were:

  • Kishor Shah - Pre-Trial Attorney

  • Chloe Bronshvag - Prosecution Attorney

  • Clive Baker - Defense Attorney

  • Amelie Ward - Defense Witness

  • Dalilah Deming - Bailiff

  • Lucy Noble - Clerk

Link Crew Applications Now Open:

Link Crew is recruiting rising juniors and seniors to help freshmen and new students transition to San Rafael High School. Link Crew Leaders run freshman orientation, Advisory push-ins, and some events throughout the school year.

Applications are due by Friday, February 13th: https://forms.gle/ht4fViooce2StSNEA

Some Reminders:

A Note on Attendance and Punctuality:
We are seeing a sharp rise in tardies and absences, particularly at the start of the school day (1st and 4th periods). This trend is significantly impacting the academic performance of students in those classes compared to those attending the same classes at different times. Students cannot learn effectively when they miss the instruction that happens at the beginning of class, and chronic tardiness is disruptive to students who arrive on time. Please prioritize timely attendance to ensure a successful end to the school year.

Senior Families: Important End-of-Year Information:

Please watch for upcoming emails containing crucial information regarding end-of-year behavioral expectations, as well as timeline reminders for prom and graduation.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Principal Dominguez (he/him)

ELPAC Testing - Feb 11th & 13th

Hello SRHS Families,

The ELPAC test is required for all EL students who have yet to be reclassified (reclassified means students have demonstrated proficiency in academic English in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking).  Students that have not completed this are scheduled to take the ELPAC test on Feb 11th & Feb 13th.

The ELPAC test is the most important piece of the reclassification process so it is important that our students take this exam seriously.

The ELPAC will be administered during the advisory period on Wednesday, February 11 and Friday, February 13.  All students will have a modified bell schedule (below).

Students who are taking the ELPAC exam need to bring their fully charged Chromebook to school on testing days.  Their Chromebook must be updated before testing (instructions below).

Please contact Assistant Principal Shannon Erby if you have any questions.

Instructions to Update SRCS issued Chromebook:
  1. Turn on your Chromebook.

  2. Connect your Chromebook to Wi-Fi. DO NOT log-in to your profile yet.

  3. At the bottom right, select the timeand then Settings .

  4. At the bottom left, select About ChromeOS.

  5. Under "Google ChromeOS," find which version of the Chrome operating system your Chromebook uses.

  6. Select Check for updates.

  7. If your Chromebook finds a software update, it will start to download automatically.

Other items to remember before testing:

  • Fully Charge your Chromebook the night before

  • Bring your charger and have it in your backpack

  • Do not bring headphones- We will provide you with headphones as students are no longer allowed to use their own.

  • If you need to fix or replace your Chromebook, you must visit the tech center before Wednesday Feb 12th!

Great things Happening at SR!

Italian Culture Comes Alive in Napa Valley

On January 28, 28 students in the  Italian students traded the classroom for the hills of Napa Valley, thanks to the generous support of the J. C. Riccio Grant and ICS  and to the support of Fondazione Italia who generously offered the bus. This immersive field trip brought Italian history and tradition to life through two iconic stops:

  • Castello di Amorosa: Students explored a faithful replica of a medieval Italian castle. A guided tour of the architecture gave students a tangible connection to the history they’ve studied, with many remarking it was the closest they had ever felt to being in Italy.

  • Pic-Nic Area: The group enjoyed an al fresco panino buffet featuring authentic Italian cheeses and cured meats. The lunch emphasized the central role of food and shared community in Italian culture.

Beyond the sights and flavors, the Riccio Grant and ICS continue to foster a deep sense of pride within our Italian Club Program. We are grateful for this support, which helps our students build memories and connections that extend far beyond the classroom.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT
We will be starting a project for the County of Marin, next Tuesday, February 10th.  We will be installing a traffic control device called a “HAWK” (High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk), crossing at the intersection of Point San Pedro Road and Summit Avenue.  Please see attached letter for more information, and please reach out with any questions.

Thank you,
