Hello Students and Families:
We are 17 days into the school year and I hope you (students) have established your routines and goals for the year. Teachers will be reporting your grade progress in the next two weeks so make sure you are keeping up or seeking help where you need it.
Families: If you keep up with your teen’s grades regularly, thank you. There has been a technical glitch that is preventing Canvas from syncing with Aeries. This is a district wide issue that the Technology Department is working on resolving ASAP.
Everyone: The number one indicator of student success is attending every class, every day. September is Attendance Awareness Month so check out our advice in the section below throughout the month. Not only is student attendance crucial to their success, we are also funded by positive student attendance. Our “Average Daily Enrollment” is so important and ultimately makes the difference in the opportunities or programs we are able to offer all students. As an incentive: Remember that I give 5 reward (MINGA) points for perfect attendance every week!
Have a great weekend,
Principal Dominguez (he/him)

Week of Sept 15 - why attendance matters
Learning builds day by day – Missing class means missing important instruction, discussions, and practice that can’t be fully replaced.
Grades and graduation are directly tied to attendance – Even smart students fall behind if they aren’t in class.
Colleges and employers look at attendance – Good attendance shows responsibility and reliability.
It’s stressful to catch up – homework and tests pile up, which can make school feel overwhelming.
Frequent absences can create gaps in skills that are hard to close later.
Show up, even on tough days – Being present is half the battle. If you’re having a tough day, take a break in the Wellness Center.
Treat school like a job – Attendance builds habits that prepare you for work or college.
Small choices add up – Going in late, leaving early, or “just one day” can turn into a pattern.
Here’s how to promote good health and balance
Take care of yourself – Sleep, eating, and stress all affect whether you feel ready to go.
Communicate about challenges – If something’s going on that makes it hard to attend, talk to a trusted adult.
