Principal's Update

Happy Friday Students and Families,

Prom is tomorrow and I  want to ensure our students have a fun time while staying safe. Raising the Bar, Keep Youth Events Substance Free (RTB) aims to shift the norms of substance use and encourage adult modeling of healthy choices. We ask for your support to keep pre-prom and graduation events alcohol and substance-free.

Raising the Bar is a county-wide initiative created in 2017 when the California County Health Rankings showed that Marin County ranked higher than 80% of all counties in the state for excessive adult alcohol consumption. The youth data is also alarmingly high, with Marin County 11th graders current BINGE DRINKING rate doubling the state average (2X)*.

We have a significant impact on our teens’ decisions regarding alcohol. Hence, it’s important for them to see that adults can have a good time without drinking alcohol and using substances at youth-centered events. By working together, we can have a direct impact on the health of our youth, and decrease the short and long-term consequences of underage substance use on adolescents, families, and our community as a whole.

Raising the Bar partners with the Marin Prevention Network, Marin Health and Human Services, schools, local coalitions, and youth organizations throughout Marin County to promote healthy adult modeling. For more information on this important county-wide initiative, please check out the website at Raising the Bar

Also keep in mind that students attending prom will take a breathalyzer prior to entering the venue to ensure a safe and sober event. Students under the influence will be subject to school discipline including loss of privileges (graduation ceremony, awards, etc) and will need to be picked up by their parents and/oor SRPD.

Sincerely,

Joe Ryan Dominguez (he/him)

Announcements
SR’s library has very limited hours during the first two weeks of May to accommodate Advanced Placement tests.  The library is closed to students May 6-16 including before school, during brunch and lunch. Students may return their books through the chute to the left of the library entrance or in the library after school.  If needed, they may check out a Chromebook from the main office.

Wellness Center Update
As we close out the 22-23 school year, Wellness would like to thank all of you for supporting the Wellness Program, school wide events and parent educational nights this year. Summer is around the corner and while we hope each and everyone of you will take time for self-care and are looking forward to fun things, we also acknowledge this may be a difficult time for some and extra support may be important as well.

Please find our Crisis and Mental Health Resource List below and feel free to contact any of the numbers provided on this list. We will be posting this one-pager and student-friendly Summer Resources on the SRHS/MHS WELLNESS CENTER SITE and social media account.

We have also attached a Parent Survey in English HERE and in Spanish HERE that will help us in continuing to bring additional topics and guest speakers for future parent educational nights next school year. When convenient, please take a couple minutes to fill this out.

Our last day of operation will be on June 9th, please let us know if there is anything we can do to support you or your student before then!
