Warning for Seniors & Parents Re: "Senior Assassins"

Posted Date: 4/03/25 (10:10 PM)

Good afternoon parents and guardians of Seniors (Class of 2025)

I am writing to make sure you are aware of an unsanctioned and non-school related game played by many of our 12th graders called “Senior Assassins.” This popular tradition, played by high school seniors across the country, involves "shooting" a targeted person/team with a water gun or other weapon-like object before being "killed" oneself.

The reason “Senior Assassins” is not sanctioned by schools is because it quickly gets out of hand, dangerous and reckless. Unfortunately, I have received a handful of reports in the past few days from members of our community that our students are driving and behaving in ways that are putting themselves and others at risk of injury. In one instance from this week, it was reported to me that a bystander was almost hit by a vehicle speeding away.

Senior Assassins is not allowed on school grounds, so students play in community areas, such as parks, restaurants, and residential zones. Students often wear disguises, such as ski masks and goggles, which can be alarming to people unfamiliar with the game.

At San Rafael High School, we will not tolerate disruptions or unsafe behavior on campus. Any student identified as participating in Senior Assassins on campus will be sent home and risk losing end-of-year privileges, such as Prom, the Senior Awards/Scholarship Ceremony, the Graduation Ceremony, or Safe and Sober Grad Night.

Please speak with your students about the potential dangers of this game and emphasize the importance of appropriate behavior. Clearly communicate your expectations regarding participation in pranks and games.

I want our students to enjoy their final months of high school safely. Let's work together to ensure a safe and successful end to their high school careers.

Sincerely,

Joe Ryan Dominguez (he/him)
