Happy Friday Students and Families,
As you may know, our Superintendent recently shared that the budgetary outlook for San Rafael City Schools is concerning and we are faced with the reality of having to significantly reduce our spending for next school year.
Statewide, school districts are impacted by budget challenges. There are three main factors that are impacting us and many others: State funding with a low cost-of-living adjustment; high student absenteeism rates; and COVID relief dollars ending. Click here for an informational video, background on our funding and an overview of the process.
As we prepare to make difficult choices to manage the many competing demands on our resources, we need your engagement and feedback.

Earlier this month, the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership held their 31st annual Heart of Marin awards ceremony. The ceremony was attended by over 500 Marin leaders, including elected officials, businesses, employers and nonprofits.
In the category of "Youth Volunteer of the Year," we are proud that Terra Linda High School student Candice Lucas and San Rafael High School student Marcos Vega were nominated, and Marcos (pictured) went on to be recognized as an award recipient for his work with Youth Transforming Justice!

| UPCOMING EVENTS THIS WEEK |

MAX ACADEMY SHOWCASE Monster Movie Projects Wednesday February 7, 2024 Hayes Theater 6:00-9:00pm |
SRHS CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERT Thursday February 8, 2024 Student Commons 7:00-8:30pm |
| ELPAC Schedule - Feb 14th & Feb 16th |
|
The ELPAC test is required for all SRHS students who have yet to be reclassified (A student who is reclassified is a student who shows that they can appropriately engage in their English curriculum without 2nd language support). The ELPAC test is the most crucial layer of reclassification so it is important that our students take this exam seriously. Students already know if they are testing as they attended an Advisory Info meeting last Wed 1/31. More communications will go out this week from Assistant Principal, Mr. Oseguera to students that are testing and their families.

Reporting an Absence: 415-485-2335
• Please call San Rafael High School each day that your student is absent. The Attendance Office voicemail records messages 24 hours a day: 415-485- 2335 (English and Spanish).
• If you have not called, your student may also bring to the Attendance Office a guardian signed and dated note explaining their absence.
• Please try to schedule doctor or legal appointments outside of school hours.
• Please call with anticipation or send a note with your student the day of any appointment you must schedule during the school day. This gives us time to notify teachers and not disrupt class.
• College visits and religious holidays require the student and parent complete a Warranted Absence form two weeks prior to the absence. Warranted Absence forms are available online and in the Attendance office
We want your students to be successful; let's work together to make sure that all students attend school every day.

SRHS Library's January 2023 Library Report focuses on many of the digital learning tools being implemented in classrooms in research projects and reading assignments. Also, we would like to give a big Bulldog high-five to the HeadsUp Foundation and WeAreSR, for funding so many of the new books we have purchased this year!
