SRHS Music Students Perform at Local Elementary Schools
SR music students packed their instruments and headed out to Glenwood, Coleman, and Sun Valley schools this November and December as part of the Music Program's outreach efforts. The goal of the field trips is for SR students to serve as role models for the younger kids and help them learn about the music options, instruments, and classes that they can take at Davidson and later at San Rafael High School.
Glenwood boogied to the sounds of the Wind Ensemble playing mostly pep band music; Coleman learned how to tell the difference between a violin and viola, as the Orchestra class performed there; and Sun Valley welcomed the Jazz I band in their red jackets -- including a number of Sun Valley alumni, foremost among them Sean Castle. The kids, younger and older, all seemed to enjoy themselves. During question and answer time at Glenwood, one student asked, "How can you keep from dancing, when you're playing that music?"
Thanks to the elementary school principals for scheduling the SR performances, and special thanks to the many Music Booster parents who drove students, instruments and gear back and forth. Look for more field trips to the other San Rafael elementary schools this winter and spring!
