There are many books on college and career planning.  We have listed a few of our favorites here, all of which are available for check out in the College and Career Center.  Most are also available in local libraries.

Career Planning

 Occupational Programs in California Public Community Colleges, Lama Books.  This is a comprehensive resource on which community colleges offer specific occupational programs.

Financial Aid

The College Board Scholarship Handbook, The College Board.  The Handbook provides information on how to find money for college; including scholarships, internships, and loan programs from private, federal, and state sources.  It includes a CD-ROM with SAT exam preparation materials.

Hispanic Scholarship Directory, Edward Olmos.  This is a comprehensive guide for Hispanic-American students and international students from Spanish-speaking countries who need help finding college financial aid.  It includes more than 1,000 scholarships.

Testing

The College and Career Center has a variety of test preparation books and software for use in practicing for advanced Placement tests, SAT I, ACT and SAT II tests. May bea checked out for a month at a time.

Variety of SAT Subject Test, ACT and AP Test Prep books.

10 Real SATs, the College Board.  Use this book to prep for the SAT I test using their 10 practice tests.

ASVAB, Peterson’s.  The book provides complete preparation for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery tests which is required for enlistees to all five branches of the military and used by many high school for career exploration.

Misc.

Early College Programs, Summer College Programs For High School Students, Nautilus Publishing Co.  This book lists summer enrichment programs by field of study and location.  Most are housed on college campuses and some programs offer college credit. 

Study Abroad, Peterson’s.  This book has extensive listings of year long and summer experiences outside the U.S.
